And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28 NIV)

Life often brings moments of confusion when events don’t seem to make sense. From unexpected trials to deep heartbreak, there are times when we can’t help but wonder why God allows such pain in our lives. It’s in these moments that Romans 8:28 offers one of the most comforting promises in Scripture: God is at work, and He is using every situation—yes, every single one—for good.

Notice that this verse doesn’t say “all things are good.” Grief, pain, and suffering are real, and they hurt. God isn’t downplaying your struggles or dismissing your feelings. But He is assuring us that even the hardest and most painful parts of life aren’t wasted. He can take what is broken and use it for His purpose, weaving it into a bigger and better plan for our lives—one that leads us closer to Him.

This promise is for "those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." That means it’s not a general statement for everyone; it is deeply personal and specific to those who trust in Christ. If you’re a follower of Jesus, you can rest in the assurance that no matter what happens in your life, God is working behind the scenes to bring good out of every situation. Even when you don’t see it or understand it, He is shaping you into the person He created you to be.

Consider Joseph’s story in Genesis. Betrayed by his brothers and imprisoned unjustly, Joseph endured years of suffering. But in the end, he was able to say, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good” (Genesis 50:20). God can take even the most painful circumstances and turn them into something beautiful.

Today, entrust your struggles to God. Remember that He loves you and is working every detail of your life into His perfect plan. The road might not always be easy, but you can trust that His purposes are always for your ultimate good and His glory.

Father, thank You for the assurance that You are working all things for good in my life. Even when I can’t see Your hand, help me trust in Your plan and Your love. Give me peace to know that nothing is wasted and that You are always in control. Use my challenges to draw me closer to You. In Jesus name, Amen.

Tomorrow, we’ll explore the security and eternal plan God has for those who trust in Him.
