The Security of His Provision
New Title
The Hymn of Security (Romans 8:31-39) continues with this verse:
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? (Romans 8 :32)
Would you stretch your imagination with me? Visualize brand new parents, after welcoming their precious baby into the world, looking at that baby and saying, “We gave you life. Our work is done. Good luck with the rest of your journey – you’re on your own.” And then they neglect to feed, clothe, hug, discipline or encourage that child.
Think about it. Do you think that once we repented, accepted the gift of salvation, and received new life in Christ, God stepped back and left us on our own? This verse is another rhetorical question – with the implied answer being “Of course not!” He gave us life, eternal life, but also promised to never leave or forsake us on our journey (Matthew 28:20).
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Jesus’ work on the cross is finished, but He is NOT finished with us. And if He did all that for us when we were still sinners (His enemies), how much more freely will He provide everything we, His children, need to fulfill the purpose He has for us?
Some understand Romans 8:32 to mean that God freely “forgives” us all things – referring to every sin that a believer might commit.
If you’ve walked with the Lord very long, you know that He is still in the business of giving and forgiving. He is a good, good Father who wants you to have everything you need – whether it’s a clean slate, fresh start, courage, wisdom, peace, or patience.
Are you lacking anything you need to walk courageously in this world?
Jesus told us exactly what to do, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened… If you then… know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matthew 7:7-11)
Don’t quit asking, don’t quit seeking, don’t quit knocking. The giver of “every good and perfect gift” (James 1:17) still has some things for you!
