Put It into Practice

Our world feels frantic right now. The holidays certainly add to that. Thinking of the true meaning of

Christmas and watching what is happening in the world and in America is like watching a terribly broken

system completely at odds with what is right. Sometimes when I am out in traffic or in a situation where

those around me are super intense (which seems to happen often), I work to shift my heart and mind in

the opposite direction.

 

When I was in the youth group (late 70’s/early 80’s, picture a big group of bell-bottom clad youth and

three guitar-playing singers on stage), we sang a song that is a testimony to the power of Christ. When

Christ is in it, something as simple as singing a short song over and over, can positively affect lives for

good, forever.

 

The song’s lyrics are: Think about things that are pure and lovely. Think about things that are good and

true. Dwell on the finer things in others. Think about all you can praise God for… and be glad about it and

sing for joy and be glad about it and sing to the Lord!


That song is based on these words: Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble,

whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent

or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me,

or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9)


In these crazy times, this passage gives us concise instructions on how to deal with today’s stressors.


So, let’s put it into practice! Make good choices with how you spend your time and what you listen to or

watch. If it isn't uplifting, don't do it. Study God’s Word for yourself, so you can hear from God and

successfully walk through this life. Look to God to shield you with His peace. He will never let you down!


Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ. God was with Mary and Joseph through a scary and lonely time

leading up to the birth of Jesus. The God of peace walked with them through it all – and He will walk

with you during your times of uncertainty too!


God’s Word is still relevant and true today. As you read His Word, experience how Jehovah Shalom (the

God of Peace) is with you! Most importantly, share that Peace with those around you as we wrap up

2023 and head into 2024! Put God’s Word into practice! The world is crying out for what only Christ can

provide! Praise the Lord!
