God’s Children Are Led by God’s Spirit
New Title
When we go to Walt Disney World, we try to get in line before the park opens. As soon as it opens, we go quickly to the first attraction we’ve picked out. I am the tallest in our family, and I always wear a hat, so everyone in our family or group can see me and follow me if the crowd makes staying together difficult. We’ve seen other groups also make sure their groups stay together. One time we saw a very large group from Brazil stay together as their “leader” waved a Brazilian flag above the crowds.
Whether we realize it or not, we are following something. Something is leading us. And we can be identified as part of a “group” of followers based on who our leader is.
What “group” we are a part of may change frequently. Sometimes multiple times a day. We may be team members at work during the day, a fan of one of our kid’s school clubs or sports teams after school, and a fan of another kid’s activity in the evening. (Hopefully they don’t play against each other.)
But there are some areas where what we are following shouldn’t change.
In Romans 8:12-17, Paul is writing to the Roman church. He is focusing on the power of the Holy Spirit and His ministry in our lives. In verse 14, Paul writes:
For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. (Romans 8:14 CSB)
If we are led by God’s Spirit, God calls us part of His family. Once you’re family, that doesn’t change. It’s just a matter of how big of a priority you make it. But that’s your decision. God is there to lead you if you want His leadership.
If you feel like you haven’t made God a priority lately, start now. God is still there for you. If you’ve ever had a family relationship that isn’t quite right, know that God is there for you – He has been in the business of restoring what is broken for a very long time.
Whose leadership are you following in your everyday life? Are you following the leadership of Christ, or are you distracted by something else?
