God’s Children Are Not Obligated by the Flesh
There’s a question that doesn’t get asked as much as it once did: “Wouldn’t it be amazing if it was possible to do that?” We will not recognize the world in 100 years. But at this point, it certainly feels as if more things are possible than ever before. When I was the age of my children, we couldn’t imagine being able to:
- Buy any book and get it instantly
- Watch any TV show or movie anywhere
- Have a video call with any of your friends or your coworkers at any time
- Work most jobs from anywhere
- Ship almost anything to your house (including fast food)
It’s quite convenient, isn’t it? You can now have access and do pretty much anything you want at any time.
Or is it? Although we have all these things available, many people seem no happier than they were without them. Depression continues to be an issue. The availability of social media tools has left people more isolated.
Maybe having the ability to watch, read, see, and eat anything we want isn’t as fun as we thought it would be after all.
1 John 2:15 says: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. We have become consumers of the world. And there are consequences for this.
Fortunately, there is a higher purpose for us than the things of this world. This is why the things of this world do not give us the satisfaction we seek.
In Romans 8:12, Paul writes: So then, brothers and sisters, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh (Romans 8:12 CSB).
We are not obligated by the flesh. We are not designed for this world.
