All In

Several years ago, our church had an “ALL IN” sermon series. In his messages, our lead pastor challenged the congregation on what it means to find your place in the church and find ways to dive in and serve in various areas of the church.

In essence, each member of the congregation is called to play a participatory role in our Lord’s Kingdom building agenda. We are not to be spectators but participants. Let’s get off the bench and get in the game!

One way to remember things we’ve read or heard is to generate an acrostic. I came up with one for the phrase, ALL IN, which I’d like to share with you. I encourage you to create your own, and I’d love to know what you come up with. Here we go:

A Admit our need for Jesus and agree to partner with God and the global church. – For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. (1 Corinthians 3:9)

L Let go of self and let God lead. In your serving, be humble. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. (Philippians 2:3)

L Love, love, love. Yes, do everything out of genuine love from your heart and not from compulsion. Do it with the love of God that is in you. Never serve begrudgingly. Do everything in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14)

I Immerse yourself in the work of the Lord, all for His glory. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

N Never look back and keep serving the Lord till the end. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14)

So, there you have it, dear friends. We have been invited to participate in an ALL IN agenda. So, let’s reflect on how we can dive ALL IN to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the church, in our community, in our sphere of influence, or wherever God has us at this moment. We need to understand this: God moves mightily when believers cooperate and participate with Him. My prayer is that we will find our places to serve during this season of our lives – and beyond.
